Justia Elevate
Justia Elevate is the law firm website platform sold by Justia, the Mountain View, California legal information company founded in 2003 and led by Tim Stanley and Stacy Stern. Justia also runs a free legal information portal and the Justia Lawyer Directory. Its designers build each Elevate site on a WordPress platform tailored for lawyers, and the firm then edits pages and publishes blog posts itself. Every tier includes Justia AI Writer, which drafts practice area pages from a practice area, subtopic and target location, or writes freeform text blocks for the lawyer to review.
Justia Chat, an AI virtual assistant, talks with site visitors in English or Spanish and emails each lead to the firm with a summary. The FAQs AI Optimization Tool proposes questions for the firm to answer, and the AI Visibility Report tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, Grok, Perplexity and Mistral describe the firm. Contact forms connect to Clio, Lawmatics, Law Ruler, Lead Docket, Litify and other intake systems.
Elevate starts at $82.50 a month paid yearly across four tiers for firms of up to 12 lawyers, sold beside Amplify ads management and Premium Placements in the Justia directory.

AI Centrality
How much of the product is actually AI. Whether the machine learning is the mechanism the buyer is paying for or a feature layered onto conventional software, and whether the vendor is specific about which is which.
Elevate is a website platform first, with AI features layered on top. A firm buys a site that Justia's designers build on a tailored WordPress platform, with hosting, a blog, Yoast SEO Premium, contact forms and a monthly report. AI Writer arrived in October 2023 to draft practice area pages, and a January 2024 update added freeform text blocks inside the editor. Justia Chat, an AI virtual assistant, reached Elevate sites in June 2024 and emails a summarized lead to the firm after each conversation.
The FAQs AI Optimization Tool followed in September 2025, proposing questions for the firm to answer with schema markup. In March 2026 the AI Visibility Report began tracking how seven AI assistants describe the firm. On Justia's lawyer directory, the AI Bio Enhancer suggests biography text for profiles. Every AI feature comes inside the subscription at no extra cost. Outside Elevate, Justia Amplify runs paid ads with machine learning click fraud monitoring.
Citation Accuracy and Hallucination Disclosure
Whether the vendor publishes measured accuracy on citations and assertions, grounds output to primary sources, and says plainly what its system does when it does not know. Legal has a documented public record of fabricated citations reaching filed briefs, so an untested claim of accuracy is not evidence.
AI Writer produces the pages that tell the public about the law in a firm's practice areas, and no accuracy figure comes with it. The drafts run on built in prompts that Justia's team created and optimized, according to the October 2023 launch post. No link between AI Writer and the case law and codes Justia hosts on its free legal information portal is described. The freeform generator fills in the firm's name and phone number automatically.
Review is left to the lawyer, and the January 2024 release notes say edits belong at the draft stage. The Bio Enhancer asks lawyers to review and refine its suggestions to ensure accuracy. On the chat side, visitors' questions get answers on the firm's site and directory profile with no stated grounding. Every published answer on the FAQs tool is written by the firm itself.
Autonomy and Oversight Model
What the system decides on its own, what a lawyer must approve, and whether the vendor documents where the review point sits. A tool that drafts under review and a tool that files without one are different products and different risks.
Drafting and publishing are split between Justia's AI and the lawyer. AI Writer works in two modes, a guided interface for common practice area pages and a freeform block inside the Elevate editor. The guided interface asks for a practice area, subtopic and location rather than a written prompt. Generated text reaches a page only when the lawyer inserts it with Use This Text or exports it to Microsoft Word for editing.
The January 2024 update added freeform drafting because, in Justia's words, the guided wizard did not give lawyers the autonomy to customize. The FAQs tool supplies questions, the firm writes every answer, and only completed questions are published. The Bio Enhancer offers suggested biography text for the lawyer to refine. Chat is the exception. Justia Chat runs on its own on the firm's website and directory profile, talking with visitors and emailing each lead to the firm.
An October 2026 update adds calling, booking and forms from the chat. No limits on what it may tell a visitor and no conversation log are described.
Operational and Outcome Evidence
Named, dated evidence that the product works in production at real firms or legal departments. Case studies with figures and identified customers count. Unattributed testimonials and launch announcements do not.
Justia's proof points are client quotes and large aggregate numbers. Frank Marciano reports five to ten new client contacts a week, and David M. Goldman PLLC grew to nine lawyers and seven blogs. Other quoted firms have been clients since 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2014. The portfolio shows live Elevate sites for Conforto Law Group, Brager Tax Law Group, Dominy Law Firm and Gair Gair Conason, among others. Justia says it has built more than 5,000 law firm websites in more than 20 years and that its marketing services produce more than 2.5 million potential leads a year for more than 600,000 attorneys.
Its lawyer directory draws over a million visits a month, and Platinum and Gold placements promise more than 280 and 38 times the visibility, with no baseline. Amplify case headlines report conversions up more than 150 percent and 240 conversions in 90 days. The testimonials are undated, and none reports a result from AI Writer, Justia Chat or the visibility tools.
Privilege and Confidentiality Posture
How client confidences are handled: attorney client privilege and work product treatment, segregation of one client matter from another, whether client data trains any model, and what the vendor commits to in writing rather than in marketing.
Elevate has no marketing agreement of its own in public, so Justia's general Terms of Service, last reviewed February 2026, and its privacy policy, last reviewed December 2025, carry the confidentiality terms. Directory profiles and Elevate sites share those documents. Justia does not claim ownership of content a user submits, and the user is entirely responsible for it. Content posted to public areas is licensed to Justia worldwide, royalty free, perpetually and irrevocably, with the right to fold it into other works.
Neither document mentions AI, model training or what happens to text entered into AI Writer, Justia Chat or the Bio Enhancer. Justia says it does not sell personal information and may keep it indefinitely. Justia Chat collects prospective clients' descriptions of their legal problems and emails them to the firm, whether it runs on the firm's site or its directory profile.
UPL and Professional Responsibility Posture
Whether the vendor is clear that it supplies a tool rather than legal advice, who its audience is, and how it addresses unauthorized practice of law, competence and supervision duties, and jurisdiction limits. ABA Formal Opinion 512 is the reference point. Where the advice line is not the duty a product raises, the axis is read through the nearest professional duty it does raise: judicial conduct rules and the reviewing duty for products sold only to courts, and the duty to bill for time actually spent for products that draft time entries.
AI Writer drafts and Justia Chat answers appear under the firm's name on its website and directory profile. The Terms of Service make the user entirely responsible for uploaded content, and the AI Writer page and release notes tell lawyers to review and revise drafts before publishing. Attorney advertising rules, state bar requirements for practice area claims and ABA Formal Opinion 512 do not come up in Justia's material on its AI tools.
The line between legal information and advice in chat answers is not drawn either. Justia's free CLE program on its Onward blog covers professional conduct, including a webinar on Rule 1.18 duties to prospective clients, separately from the product. Prospective clients talk with the chat assistant in English or Spanish on the firm's behalf, and Justia says it is not responsible for what those conversations contain. No jurisdiction limit is stated for generated content or chat.
AI Governance and Bias Disclosure
Published governance over model behavior: who owns it inside the vendor, what is tested before release, and what is disclosed about disparate output across matter types, parties, or populations.
Justia's AI features arrive through launch posts on its Onward blog, and those posts cover features and prices. The prompts behind AI Writer were created and optimized by Justia's team, and no further account of how drafting is built or tested is given. Chat runs in English and Spanish with no stated quality checks for either language. The Terms of Service and privacy policy do not mention AI. Justia's leadership page names Tim Stanley as chief executive, Stacy Stern as president and Vasu Kappettu as chief operating and technology officer, and none is described as owning AI risk.
Release reviews and results across practice areas, languages or visitors are not reported. AI also runs on Justia's consumer sites, including an AI Question Assistant for Ask A Lawyer since February 2025 and AI summaries of CLE programs.
AI Safety and Data Stewardship
Retention, deletion, access control, and what happens to prompts and documents after they are processed. Whether the vendor states its subprocessors and its incident practice, or leaves the buyer to assume.
Justia's privacy policy, last reviewed December 2025, covers all its sites. Personal information may be kept indefinitely or as long as the law allows, and users can ask for deletion. Data is shared with vendors and service providers, and no transmission is guaranteed fully secure. Under the Terms of Service, Justia can set limits on how long content is kept and takes no responsibility for deleted or unstored communications.
Account information can be deleted on termination. On cancellation the firm receives its site as HTML and graphics or WordPress export files, so the content leaves with the firm. Form submissions route to the firm's intake systems, and chat leads arrive by email. AI Writer prompts and chat transcripts have no retention period, subprocessors are not listed, and no incident notice practice is stated.
AI Liability and Recourse
What the vendor stands behind contractually when its output is wrong. Indemnities, caps, carve outs, insurance, and whether any of it is published or only reachable through a negotiated agreement.
Justia's general Terms of Service govern its marketing products, since no separate marketing agreement is public, and they reach everything a firm buys from Elevate to Premium Placements. Section 20 excludes Justia's liability to the user for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Section 21 limits liability to the greatest extent the law permits, with no cap figure. Services come as is and as available, with no warranty that results will be accurate or reliable.
The user indemnifies Justia against third party claims, including reasonable attorneys' fees, and Justia gives no indemnity in return. California law governs, Santa Clara County courts have exclusive venue, and Justia may elect individual arbitration and change the terms without notice. Connect Pro membership terms cap Justia's liability at what a member paid and bar claims after one year. They also make fees nonrefundable and not prorated, with automatic renewal.
Practice Systems Integration Depth
How deeply the product reaches into the systems legal work already lives in: document management such as iManage and NetDocuments, Word and Outlook, contract lifecycle management, matter management, e-billing, and court filing systems.
Contact forms are where Elevate meets a firm's systems. Form submissions can be routed into Clio, Lead Docket, Captorra, Law Ruler, Lawmatics, Legal Intake Professionals, Litify, Zola Suite, Constant Contact, Pipedrive and Zapier. Chat leads arrive by email at the address on the firm's site or directory profile rather than through those connections. An October 2026 update lets visitors call the firm, book appointments or submit forms from the chat, without naming the calendars or intake systems behind those actions.
On the public side, the FAQs tool adds schema markup to each published answer, and Yoast SEO Premium comes with every tier. AI Writer drafts can leave the editor as Microsoft Word files for outside editing. No field mapping, sync direction or setup steps are documented for any connection, and Justia offers no public API.
Deployment Model and Data Residency
Where the software runs and where the data sits. Multi tenant cloud, single tenant, private deployment, on premises, and whether region of residence is a published option or an enterprise conversation.
Elevate sites are hosted on Justia's own WordPress platform, and the Elevate benefits page lists Amazon AWS Cloud among its technologies. Static pages are served from content delivery network servers in the United States and abroad. Every site runs on the firm's own domain, and Justia does not say who holds the domain registration. The firm edits its site in the Elevate editor, where AI Writer blocks sit beside ordinary text blocks.
No region, tenancy model or processing location is stated for site data, form submissions, chat transcripts or AI Writer input, and all four tiers deploy the same way. On directory profiles, the chat assistant runs inside the Justia Lawyer Directory rather than on the firm's own site. On cancellation the firm gets a copy of its content and design. Justia's offices are in Mountain View, San Jose and San Francisco, with another in Saltillo, Mexico.
Security Certifications and Trust Center
Independent attestation a buyer can pull without a sales call: SOC 2, ISO 27001, penetration test summaries, a trust center with current reports and named scope rather than a badge image.
Elevate's security story is told at the site level. Every site gets a free SSL certificate that Justia installs and renews, support for HTTP/2, and hosting on Amazon AWS, with static pages served through a content delivery network. Justia names no SOC 2 report, ISO 27001 certificate, auditor or audit period for Elevate or its other marketing products, and runs no trust center. The privacy policy says no transmission over the internet can be guaranteed fully secure, and it states no breach notice period.
The terms disclaim responsibility for deleted or unstored communications. Subprocessors are not listed beyond a general reference to vendors and service providers, and how data reaching the AI features is secured is not described.
Model Supply Chain Disclosure
Which models sit underneath, whose they are, where they run, and whether the vendor commits to telling customers when that changes. A legal buyer inherits every dependency it cannot see.
OpenAI and Gemini appear beside WordPress, Yoast SEO Premium and Amazon AWS Cloud in the list of technologies behind Elevate, without being tied to a feature. The Business Wire release calls AI Writer proprietary, and the launch post says it runs on prompts Justia's team created and optimized. AI Writer is available only to firms with an Elevate website. The AI Visibility Report reads answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, Grok, Perplexity and Mistral, which are what the report measures rather than what runs it.
No model is named for AI Writer, Justia Chat, the Bio Enhancer, the FAQs tool, the visibility report or the AI Question Assistant on Ask A Lawyer. Whether firm or visitor text reaches OpenAI or Gemini is not stated, and Justia makes no commitment to announce a provider change.
Commercial Transparency
Whether a buyer can learn what this costs without entering a sales process: published rates, the unit being charged, what sits behind an enterprise tier, and what implementation adds.
Elevate is priced in the open. The website starts at $99 a month, or $990 a year with two months free, which Justia presents as $82.50 a month, and actual pricing varies by tier and payment plan. Four tiers carry one, three, five and twelve lawyer profiles. A price calculator covers firms of one to twelve lawyers, and larger firms are told to contact Justia. AI Writer, Justia Chat, the FAQs tool, Yoast SEO Premium, the monthly report and the blog are included at no extra cost, with Justia Chat included subject to change.
No setup fee or minimum term is stated. Amplify ads management and Premium Placements carry no published prices, and Amplify's call tracking costs extra. Connect Pro directory membership costs $19.99 a month or $199.80 a year and includes $200 a year toward one Amplify, Elevate or Premium Placement purchase. That membership renews automatically, and its fees are nonrefundable and not prorated.
Firm and Practice Coverage
Who the product is actually built for. AmLaw, midlaw, small firm and solo, in house departments, government and courts, and which practice areas are supported rather than merely claimed.
Elevate is sized for solo and small firms. The tiers run from one to twelve lawyer profiles, the price calculator stops at twelve lawyers, and larger firms are asked to contact Justia. The portfolio and testimonials span personal injury, employment, tax, criminal defense, estate planning and DWI practices in Boston, Los Angeles, Columbus, New York and Portland, Maine. Justia says it serves law firms and lawyers throughout the nation, runs a Spanish language blog called Avanza, and offers Justia Chat in English and Spanish.
Lawyers outside Elevate meet Justia's AI through the directory, where Justia Chat has run on Connect Pro profiles since August 2024 and on Premium Placement profiles since October 2025. The AI Bio Enhancer, launched in March 2025, serves the same profiles. Consumers reach those profiles through Justia's free legal information portal and directory. Practice areas Justia does not serve, government or in house buyers, and jurisdictions outside the United States are not addressed.

Legal Signals
What each signal meansA signal records what public sources say on the date shown. It is not a grade and it is not a recommendation. Where a signal reads Not addressed, it means the index did not locate the material in public sources on that date, which is a statement about disclosure rather than about the product.
Client Data in Training
Can material a lawyer puts into this product be used to train a model?
A published agreement or policy exists and none of it addresses the question either way, or the document that would answer it could not be read and the summary names the retrieval limit. The summary states which shape the silence takes: an improvement right granted that never names training, or no improvement right granted at all.
Justia's Terms of Service, last reviewed February 2026, and its privacy policy, last reviewed December 2025, do not say whether AI Writer prompts, chat conversations or Bio Enhancer input train a model. The terms license content posted to public areas to Justia perpetually and irrevocably, with the right to incorporate it into other works, while saying Justia does not claim ownership of submitted content. No marketing services agreement for Elevate is public.
Neither document says how OpenAI or Gemini, both listed among Elevate's technologies, handle firm or visitor data. AI Writer is sold only with an Elevate website, and Justia Chat also runs on Connect Pro and Premium Placement directory profiles, so the general documents cover text from both settings.
Prompt and Output Retention
How long does the product keep what a lawyer typed, and can that be set to zero?
Retention is acknowledged in public materials with no stated period.
Personal information may be kept indefinitely or to the extent the law permits under Justia's privacy policy, which also gives users a right to ask for deletion. The Terms of Service let Justia set limits on how long content is kept and disclaim responsibility for deleting or failing to store communications. Termination can mean deletion of a user's password and all related account information, without a timeline. Justia Chat leads are emailed to the firm, and chat transcripts, AI Writer prompts and drafts have no retention period.
No setting lets a firm shorten how long Justia keeps them. On cancellation the firm receives its website content and design as HTML and graphics or WordPress export files.
Ethical Walls and Matter Segregation
Does retrieval respect the firm’s ethical walls, or can the model read across them?
No located public material addresses walls or matter level segregation.
Competing firms in the same practice areas and cities buy Elevate sites, Premium Placements and Amplify ads from Justia, and its lawyer directory lists them side by side. Gold and Platinum placements raise a firm's visibility within those same listings. No separation is described between client firms' AI Writer inputs, chat transcripts or AI Visibility Report data, and an Elevate account has no documented user roles or permissions.
Chat leads go by email to the address on each firm's site or directory profile. Justia Chat has run on Premium Placement profiles since October 2025, and how conversations from different firms' profiles are kept apart is not described.
Third Party Request and Subpoena Notice
If someone subpoenas the vendor for a firm’s data, does the firm hear about it first?
Published terms or policy address disclosure to authorities or in response to legal process, and no commitment or reservation regarding customer notice is located anywhere. The vendor has told the customer that data can leave and has said nothing about whether the customer hears of it.
A valid legal process such as a warrant or subpoena can compel disclosure of personal information under Justia's privacy policy, and the Terms of Service allow disclosure if the law requires it. Neither commits to notifying the user or the client firm before or after a disclosure. Vendors and service providers are the other exception to Justia's rule against disclosing personal information, and Justia says it does not sell personal information.
The privacy policy has no governing law clause, and the terms run under California law with venue in Santa Clara County courts. How Justia would handle a subpoena for a firm's chat leads or form submissions is not described.
Primary Law Corpus Provenance
Where does the law in this product come from, and does the vendor have the right to use it?
No located public material identifies the corpus behind the product’s answers.
Built in prompts that Justia's team created and optimized drive AI Writer, fed with the practice area, subtopic and location the lawyer enters, according to the October 2023 launch post. The freeform generator works from the lawyer's own instructions and fills in the firm's name and phone number. No source material is named for the drafts beyond those prompts and the lawyer's inputs. Justia hosts free case law, codes, statutes and regulations on its legal information portal, with no described link between that collection and AI Writer, Justia Chat or the Bio Enhancer.
The Business Wire release calls AI Writer proprietary. No body of material is named for the chat assistant's answers, and what it may tell a visitor about the law is not set out.
Good Law Verification
Does the product tell you when the authority it just cited has been overruled?
No located public material addresses whether authority is checked for subsequent history.
No check of AI Writer drafts or Justia Chat answers against current authority is described, and no link to Justia's own case law and code collection is described either. Practice area pages are drafted for a target location the lawyer enters, and nothing prompts a revisit when the law there changes. Review sits with the lawyer before a draft is published. On the FAQs AI Optimization Tool, the firm writes every answer, so statements of law there come from the lawyer.
The Bio Enhancer works on biographies, which state credentials rather than law. The AI Visibility Report tracks how assistants describe the firm, not whether its pages state the law correctly.
Refusal and Uncertainty Behavior
What does the product do when the answer is not in the corpus?
No located public material addresses what the product does when it cannot ground an answer.
What AI Writer or Justia Chat does when it lacks an answer, such as declining a legal question or passing a visitor to the firm, is not described. The Justia Chat help center says the assistant engages visitors and emails leads in English or Spanish, and that Justia is not responsible for the content of chat conversations. An enhanced Justia Chat announced in October 2026 lets visitors call the firm, book appointments or submit forms from the chat, without saying when the assistant offers those routes.
For drafting, the AI Writer page tells lawyers to review drafts before publishing. The Bio Enhancer tells them to review and refine its suggestions to ensure accuracy.
Fabricated Citation Record
Does a public court record exist addressing fabricated or hallucinated legal citations in output from this product?
No court order, opinion or disciplinary record addressing fabricated or hallucinated legal citations produced by this product has been located as of the date shown. This is a statement about the public record on that one subject, not a finding about the product, and this signal is not a litigation history.
The AI Hallucination Cases database maintained by Damien Charlotin, which records court decisions worldwide that address hallucinated AI content and the tool involved where known, has no entry naming Justia, Justia Elevate or Justia AI Writer. Elevate's AI writes website content and talks with prospective clients rather than producing court filings, and Justia's free case law collection is a separate product.
Bar Guidance Alignment
Has the vendor engaged in public with the ethics opinions its buyers are bound by?
Public materials engage with at least one named ethics opinion.
Justia's free CLE program, published on its Onward blog, includes a webinar on the duties Rule 1.18 places on lawyers toward prospective clients after a single call. The webinars run separately from Elevate. Material on AI Writer, Justia Chat, the FAQs tool and the AI Visibility Report does not engage with attorney advertising rules, state bar opinions on AI or ABA Formal Opinion 512. The Terms of Service leave responsibility for content with the user, and no workflow is offered for reviewing AI drafted pages against a state's advertising rules.
Justia Chat holds first conversations with prospective clients, the situation Rule 1.18 addresses, without a stated link to that guidance.
Billing and Fee Posture
Does the vendor address what happens to the bill when the work takes an hour instead of six?
The product does not touch a fee between a lawyer and a client. It operates before an engagement exists, or it is bought by a team that bills no client for the work. Savings claims aimed at the buyer’s own cost are recorded in the summary and do not make the row a savings claim, because no client bill is in the loop.
Justia charges the firm a subscription, listed at $99 a month or $990 a year with two months free, across four tiers sized by lawyer profiles. AI Writer, Justia Chat and the other AI tools are included at no extra cost. None of it addresses what a lawyer charges a client, since Elevate works before an engagement exists, attracting and capturing prospective clients for the firm's own practice. Amplify ads management and Premium Placements carry no published prices, and Amplify call tracking is an additional fee. Connect Pro directory membership costs $19.99 a month and renews automatically.
Outside Counsel Guideline Readiness
Can a firm get this vendor through a client’s AI clause without a bespoke negotiation?
No located public material supports a client side disclosure obligation.
Justia's general Terms of Service, rather than a product agreement, govern the Elevate subscription. No subprocessor or model provider list, data processing addendum or disclosure pack exists for Elevate in public, and the privacy policy refers to vendors and service providers without naming them. OpenAI, Gemini and Amazon AWS Cloud appear among Elevate's platform technologies without being tied to features. Justia names no SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate and runs no trust center.
The privacy policy has no governing law clause, while the terms run under California law. Larger firms are directed to contact Justia, with no enterprise terms described.
Court Disclosure Support
If a judge’s standing order requires an AI disclosure, can the product produce one?
No located public material addresses court disclosure or verification certification.
Website content, directory text and chat leads are what Elevate's AI produces, and Justia offers no court disclosure guidance or record. Nothing records which page text AI Writer drafted or which model produced it. Text enters a page through the editor's Use This Text option or a Word export, and no label stays with it afterward. Drafts can also be downloaded and edited outside Justia before they are published. Chat leads arrive as emailed summaries.
The enhanced Justia Chat announced in October 2026 adds calls, bookings and forms, with no stated log of what the assistant told the visitor.
