What counts as publishing pricing?

Three things together, on a page a buyer can reach without contacting anyone: the rate, the unit being charged (per user, per month, per matter, per search), and what implementation adds. Publishing tier names and feature splits with the number gated behind a demo request is a shape without a figure and grades C. Publishing the unit and the structure without the figure, or real rates for part of the range with enterprise tiers withheld, grades B. Nothing at any level, including the unit of charge, grades D.

Are legal AI prices converted to dollars on this page?

No. Every figure is recorded in the currency the vendor published it in and shown that way, with the currency code beside it. A converted price would be a number the vendor never stated and one that changes daily; the index records what was published on the date shown and nothing else.

Does unpublished pricing mean a product is expensive?

No, and the index does not suggest it. A vendor that gates its price has made a disclosure choice, not a price claim, and enterprise legal software is routinely priced per seat with volume discounts that a single published figure would misstate. What the absence does mean is that the buyer cannot self qualify, cannot compare total cost of ownership across a shortlist without a sales conversation with each vendor, and cannot tell a client what a tool costs before it has been demonstrated. The grade is a disclosure grade, dated, and redated the day the vendor publishes.

Which legal AI vendors publish their pricing?

Fewer than one in five. The AI Legal Index grades every vendor on Commercial Transparency, which asks whether a buyer can learn what a product costs without entering a sales process: published rates, the unit being charged, and what implementation adds. Of 195 legal AI vendors recorded, 21 publish rates a firm can model its own cost from, 45 publish real pricing for part of the range or state the unit and structure without the figure, 36 publish tier names and feature splits with the number gated behind a demo request, and 93 publish nothing about price at any level, not even the unit of charge. 38 vendors have a published entry figure on record here, shown in the currency the vendor published and never converted. The vendors at the top of the axis are CARET Legal, CaseMine, Dazychain, DecoverAI, Descrybe, Docket Alarm, Dodonai, Huski.ai, Jus Mundi, LawDroid, LawX, LegalSifter, Legartis, MyCase, Omnilex, SmartDepo, Smith.ai, Streamline AI, Superinsight, UniCourt and Xakia. The pattern across the index is consistent: vendors selling to solo and small firms publish their prices, and vendors selling to large firms and in house departments do not.

A published price is the one thing a buyer can check before a vendor knows it is looking. In most software markets that is a convenience. In legal work it is a duty question, because a firm that cannot say what a tool costs cannot tell a client whether the cost is being passed through, absorbed, or offset against hours the tool removed. The index grades this on Commercial Transparency and keeps a separate pricing record on every vendor profile where a figure was published, in the vendor’s own currency, with the source and the date.

Every figure here is the lowest recurring paid rate the vendor published, in the currency it was published in. Free tiers are named rather than recorded as zero, and the full basis for each figure, including what the entry tier leaves out, is on the vendor’s profile.

The A tier is where a firm can read the rate, the unit and the implementation cost and go no further. The B tier has published something real and stopped short: rates for the small firm plans with enterprise withheld, or the whole structure with no number in it.
